The other day we asked our Facebook followers to describe their studio’s approach to teaching piano lessons in just one word. Well… the feedback was phenomenal!
Immersive, dynamic, inspiring, creative, powerful, and passionate were just a few of the words teachers used to describe their piano teaching style. Needless to say, the piano teaching world is in good shape if the teachers on our Facebook page are representative of the industry as a whole!
In today’s blog post, I thought I would show you a strategy to ensure your one-word descriptor builds a better piano teaching studio (not that it isn’t great already!).
First things First
If you haven’t already done so, come up with one word that describes your approach to teaching piano. This one word will be the foundation of the exercise to follow. It seems too simple to be true, but your one word descriptor is going to be your foundation for success; assuming your one word is not “miserable” or “chaotic” 🙂 Now, make a list of everything and anything your piano students and parents encounter when they interact with your studio. Your list should include things like your website, your advertising brochures, your studio furniture, your wall art, your email address, your piano teaching method books, your metronome… to name a few. Examine every item on your list. Is your one-word descriptor communicated through each item on your list? If not, how can you adapt the items on your list so that they communicate your one-word approach to teaching piano? If your one-word descriptor is “FUN”, is this communicated through your website design, your studio décor, and your piano teaching method books? It is important to be brutally honest with yourself. While you may describe your piano teaching studio with one fantastic word, if this word is not being clearly communicated through all of the “little things”, then your piano teaching clients may not be receiving the same message. If you feel like adding some more great one-word piano studio descriptors, leave a message below. When we started our piano studio, one word served as our foundation – innovation. Ever since, our piano studio’s approach to lessons has been guided by that one word. And it’s served us well, growing our studio to well over 300 students.
