Are you looking to spruce up your studio waiting area? It’s time to get rid of those photographs of that same old red rose on a keyboard and make the walls of your piano studio both beautiful and meaningful! Check out these ideas for making your studio shine with student achievements in a way that is fast, easy, and inexpensive.
When parents first walk into your studio (or when they’ve walked in there over and over again) it’s an opportunity to wow them with your creativity. Instead of simply thinking of studio decor as decor… think of it as an advertising moment where you can inform your clients and show them what makes your studio stand out from the rest. By incorporating a “wall of fame” idea into your studio decor you can quickly set the stage for word-of-mouth potential.
Turn your piano studio walls into a conversation piece!
There are many different things you can display on your studio walls to turn them into a “Wall Of Fame”. Today we’re getting you started with 4 ideas. Using a graphic design program like Canva, you can quickly make professional-looking posters and, with a laminating machine, you can turn them into lasting pieces of piano studio decor. Try the following categories to get your creative juices flowing.
“Our Students Are Stars”
I love to keep track of all of our mini-concerts and theme recitals we have. Using a program like Canva, I can quickly create a cool-looking poster that includes the performers’ names and the date of the event and then print and laminate it in 11×17 format. You can include a yearly photo of your piano recital participants (a fun way to track studio growth!) or you can have a list of names as a festival poster might. My studio walls are papered with colorful memories of all of our coffee shop nights and recitals.
Composer of the Month
Each month at our studio we choose a Composer of the Month (our students compose a new piece every month which is published using Finale). I take a photo of the student, and then their masterpiece and these are featured on our Composer of the Month wall. Other students love to see what their peers have composed (they always have some very inventive titles!), and it shows parents in the waiting area how much emphasis we place on student composing at our studio.
Media Masters
We regularly video and audio record our students as a reward for enthusiasm and effort in lessons. These students then have their name on display (think Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame style) on our walls with their “platinum record” or their music video poster.
Check Out What We’re Up To!
I always save a wall of the studio to display our latest practice incentive, project, upcoming event, or theme. The students love to watch the back wall change each week and it makes it immediately apparent to anyone who comes into our studio that we are a fun place to be.
By changing the decorations on your studio walls to be student-centered you are creating a sense of community among your studio families. It is immediately apparent that you offer more than just the “same old, same old” piano lessons. It’s undeniable that you are fun and inventive, and people can’t help but notice the effort you put into your piano studio program. It’s a win-win. Beautiful walls… happy clients.
