Wow, you two are filled with such great ideas. All but the first one you mentioned (guest musician fund raiser–too large of an endeavor for the size of my studio, but maybe someday) seem very doable and fun! Than you so much for sharing. I look forward to giving them a try. I’ll be anxious to learn more about the Return to music day. Some of my favorites are my adult students!

Can’t wait to hear more about Return to Music Day….would it be in group-style lessons for a fun and social activity for adults?

Hi Trevor and Andrea- Thanks for these great ideas- I am interested in the First Gig idea. So did you go to a chain coffee shop like Tim Hortons? Or a local one? I ‘m just trying to figure out how to make this work….Thanks Fiona
Andrea says
Hi Fiona – no, not a franchise… we opt for the artsy little coffee shops as they have a cool vibe and a cozy atmosphere 🙂 Small business is more likely to be flexible and stay open late one night for you as well.

I love this list! I can’t wait to hear more about your “Return to Music Day” too.
I’m going to try to do this “Duets Week” this Spring!
Thank you for sharing!

And you bring an instrument with you (what kind?) or does the coffee shop have one? Just located a funky new coffee shop in town that happens to have a piano–don’t know if it’s tuned–cool idea!!

I wish I weren’t on the treadmill when I listened to this so I could have taken notes! What wonderful ideas! Thank you 🙂

Love these ideas! You mentioned for the piano parties you charge $10. Do you charge for any of the other activities ie Duets Week, do you charge for the mini concert, or is that considered one of the lessons for the year, or is that an extra free activity?
Andrea says
Hi Wendy – I only charge for the Piano Party as it is like an extra group lesson. I have never ever charged for recitals or concerts – I think that parents should be able to come and watch their child perform without having to pay to do so. Recital costs are somewhat covered in my registration fee. The only other activity we charge for are the theme month concerts as part of the proceeds need to pay the performing artist and the rest is donated to charity. For these we have had greater success accepting donations than we have had charging a set ticket price (but it’s definitely a risky approach). For us it paid off big time as people were extremely generous – especially when it is a local cause that is dear to people’s hearts. We were able to donate a lot of money from just a few concerts.
