Imagine the excitement on your little piano students’ faces when you tell them they are about to become a member of the “Piano Police”… badge included. I’d bet dimes to dollars that that last sentence already has you thinking about a certain piano student who would be perfect for today’s piano printable.
Keeping The Peace With The Theory Police
Today’s activity will have your most rambunctious piano students sitting like little angels at the piano bench, paying perfect attention to all those important little “musical markings” that they would normally ignore… you know the ones!
That’s right! We’ve found a way to get those busy little bees to address the dynamics and articulation marks found in their piano pieces.
The Magic Begins With A Badge
Print out the “Meet The Theory Police” printable found here. Cut out the 4 different police badges and laminate them. Set up complete!
Now, the next time a rambunctious piano student walks through the door, present them with the “Slur County Sheriff” badge (or another badge of your choosing). Explain to your student that they are the Slur County Sheriff for the day and that their job is to make sure not a single slur in any of their pieces escapes their attention today.
Before beginning any piano piece, give your little sheriffs a pencil and ask them to capture (draw a circle around) any slur in their current piano piece. Explain that their job is to now play the piano piece through, without letting any slurs escape (their attention).
We’ve included a blank badge you can use if you would like your piano students to focus on a specific skill of your choosing. Just grab a dry erase marker and work on any skill that requires attention.
Are you ready to bring law and order to your students’ piano pieces? 🙂
More Fun With Theory
In our opinion, theory gets a bad rap. It’s not nearly as scary or boring as people make it out to be. Case in point, our resource, Pssst… Your Piano Teacher Thinks This Is Theory. It is simply impossible to use this theory book and not have a blast!
