Is it feeling like summer where you live? It certainly is here! And so today we’re sharing a beach-themed piano teaching game to keep your kiddos motivated and excited about their lessons through the summer.
“Beach Day” Piano Teaching Game
This is a simple and visually attractive little game that will have your piano students will be begging for more! Kids love collecting things… and this game plays right into that! “Beach Day” is designed for early elementary level students.
Get the Materials for “Beach Day” Below…
- Print off the “Beach Day” board game here.
- Print off the “Beach Day” card pack here.
- Grab a game marker (candy, eraser, coin… anything)
Students: Place your game marker on the “Start” circle and draw a card. Complete the task on the card. If you complete it correctly, move forward the number of spaces shown on the card. If incorrect, move back two spaces and re-draw a new card. If you draw a “beach gear” card, keep it and put it to the side of the board. If you land on an “Oops” circle then you lose one piece of your beach gear and the card is returned to the pile. If you land on the “Shopping Spree” circle, you get to take back one piece of your lost beach gear. If you reach the finish with at least 3 pieces of beach gear you win and head to the beach! If you do not have 3, stay on the last space and continue to flip over and complete cards until you collect the 3 needed pieces of beach gear.
One Step Ahead in Summer
I consider the lessons leading up to (and through) summer some of the most important lessons of the year. I want my students to be inspired to practice over the summer, I want my students to be engaged in special projects that we don’t always have time for in lessons, and I want my students to be having fun so that they continue to progress and continue to be invested in their lessons! Hope this game helps you to incorporate some of that fun in your studio 🙂

Thanks! This looks like a fun game. I just printed it out and will play it with some of my students today.

Thank you! I see how it works for students of different levels.

Hi Milla – you can either print out several pages of the cards to keep it to “very simple” or you can use it as review with slightly more advanced kids. You will need the entire card pack (so either many copies of the very easy cards or the full printable).

Thanks for this, I’ve been still playing snow day when I need a game, even tho it’s like 30° haha
Same idea but with a summer theme

Hi Emily! It was as I was playing snow day for the millionth time with a little guy who just loves it that I thought… why in the world haven’t I made a summer one?! LOL 🙂

Great game. Thank you so much. Seashells would make great markers!

“May we play this again next week? This is the best game in the whole wide world!” Yes, I had a very happy student. Thanks so much.

I just printed this off (who doesn’t like some summer in their autumn?) with one change: I made each circle about 8 inches across and cut them out so we can play on a giant board – which is awesome for the super wiggly students.
If you do this, I would suggest laminating the circles… don’t want to have to print them out again due to muddy boots! :p
Andrea says
Great idea Emily! I love the idea of a giant game board 🙂

I really miss when you would just post a quick, free game like this.
