Once a month Andrea and I take a break from our regular posts to showcase our monthly releases from PianoBookClub. If you have piano students who need some comic-based inspiration to master accidentals, then November’s Book of the Month, Robots Can’t Rhumba – Busting a Move with Sharps and Flats is the supplementary repertoire you need. Find out more about it below!
Alex was a robot who excelled at all things school.
Science, math, and history… he always keep it cool.
Report card day would come and go; he’d gaze at all the A’s.
But every time a ‘D’ in gym would cause him great dismay.
“Can’t touch his toes,” the teacher wrote; for Alex, this was true.
Nuts and bolts don’t bend like that… What could a robot do?
Busting a Move with Sharps and Flats
Will hip hop help his hamstrings? Will salsa stretch his spine? Prepare to power up the fun as Alex The Robot heads out on a journey of “accidental” dance class adventures to improve his flexibility and earn that ‘A’.
Robots Can’t Rhumba: Busting a Move with Sharps and Flats is an interactive, story-based piano book that offers a laugh-out-loud introduction to the accidentals most commonly found in elementary-level repertoire.
The 7 piano pieces in this book are preceded by comic-based story pages where technical exercises follow pairs of illustrated frames… allowing students to practice playing with sharps and flats as you read the tale.
Your piano students will bust a gut as they join Alex the Robot on a journey of “accidental” adventures that leave our unlikely hero in a metallic mess.
Don’t blame Alex if fits of laughter cause musical malfunctions in your studio… 😉

I LOVE Robots Can’t Rumba! Not only is it teaching accidentals, but I feel it is also teaching acceptance, love of self, encouragement….(can you tell I have a hard time in my yoga class because of inflexibility? 🙂
