When you tap into the imagination of your piano students, you unleash a powerful learning tool. Play-based learning is not only motivating, but it’s also effective. As you teach through play you are helping your piano students to make memorable connections that result in a deeper, lasting understanding of important piano concepts.
In today’s post we’re previewing an imaginative, game-based piano book that will get your elementary-level piano students pumped about sight-reading.
Superhero Sight-Reading For Elementary Students
There’s a music thief on the loose, and he’s wreaking havoc in cities around the globe! The International ScoreSafe Organization has issued an appeal for assistance and placed all musicians on high alert.
Turn your elementary-level piano students into sight-reading superheroes with April’s PianoBookClub book of the month from Teach Piano Today… My Sight-Reading Superpower. This month’s book transforms sight-reading into an interactive, game-based experience as your students sight-read their way through an urban adventure in major cities of the world.
Designed to focus on sight-reading skills in C position, My Sight-Reading Superpower provides the activities and music you need to raise your students’ sight-reading abilities to heroic standards. This book contains 7 sight-reading pieces, each with a strong focus on note-reading, rhythm, articulation, and dynamic accuracy. Each piece is preceded by an exciting title page that turns sight-reading practice into a game…
Practicing one measure at a time in a “create your own arrangement”, roll-the-dice game, your students will improve their ability to read notes, rhythm and articulation at sight, making it simple for them to “flip the page” and sight-read the accompanying piece. By employing this scaffolding technique you’re giving your students the skills and the confidence they need to become proficient sight-readers from an early age.
“Excellent book – I’ve got two young boy students who are already enjoying this resource! They didn’t even mind the sight-reading as they were engrossed in the super-hero/villain excitement! Lol” ~ Teresa

Cheyenne says
So is this book only available through the Piano Book Club or can you buy it at a music store?
Andrea says
Hi Cheyenne – our books are all available through PianoBookClub and are digital (not hardcopy like in a music store). As soon as you sign up we send you an email with the pdf file. It comes with a license to print as many copies as you like forever so you can use it with lots of students (the lovely benefit of digital music!) A PianoBookClub membership is $8/month and we send you a new book of supplementary repertoire every month. Cancel any time (but we bet you won’t want to!) 😉

I have a subscription with you. Where do I find the download for this book?
Andrea says
Hi Julie! I checked and your book was delivered April 10th. If you need help with email filtering just email me at andrea@pianobookclub.com and I can help you find it 🙂

Hi Andrea,
With all of the busy preparations for my spring recital (which was last Friday!), I never got around to downloading this awesome book from April. I just noticed the note that says it isn’t available after April 30th. Is that correct? Is there another book that I can access since I didn’t get it? Thank You!
Andrea says
Hi Michelle! Of course! As a member we’ll always refresh links for you – I’ve just emailed it to you 🙂 The April 30th deadline is just for new sign-ups as we change the book of the month to the next month’s book at that point. I’ll send it to you right now 🙂
Caren Worel says
I didn’t get the April book or the May one. I’m still signed up, right??
Andrea says
Hi Caren – sorry to take a bit to get back to you – in the future for questions about your membership please email me so I can help you faster 🙂 Yes, your books arrive on the 2nd of every month – I will email you instructions on how to prevent email filtering and the links you need.
Deirdre Me says
I am a member. I thought I had access to this April book but I cannot find it.
Andrea says
Hi Dierdre – I checked for you and I see you started your membership in July (which is why you don’t have April’s book). More in this sight-reading series to come in the next few months, however! 🙂
