Today I’m going to be giving you some quick tips on choosing a great piano teaching method book for your students. A piano teaching method book has the ability to make or break your studio. No matter how wonderful YOU may be, without the right book your piano students will flounder, get discouraged and lose motivation.
The top 3 things to look for when selecting a piano method book are:
1) A multi-levelled program that will suit all ages and all stages of your studio. Save yourself a lot of work and choose a method book that will work for everyone you teach regardless of age or experience. If you’re switching students between different method books you will spend too much time patching holes in their understanding of important concepts.
2) Visual appeal. Most of you will be teaching piano to children and your material needs to appeal to their sense of what is enjoyable. Look for books that are colourful, laid out in a way that is clear and concise and that appeals to the age group you teach.
3) Piano books that come with accompanying supplementary materials. Most piano method book series also offer a theory book or a performance book to go with each level. These provide a great opportunity to really make sure a concept is understood before moving on.
With the right piano teaching method book you’ll be set up for success.
