I love teaching piano. There is nothing I’d rather do to earn a living than teach piano. But I’m not going to lie… there are some days I would rather be doing almost anything else in the world.
Tomorrow will not be one of those days.
Because tomorrow, Lexi (my baby girl) starts Kindergarten. And while it will hurt like heck to let her go, I am so thankful my career choice has meant Lexi and I have been joined at the hip for the last five years.
So while most moms have had to face letting their children go at a much younger age, because of piano teaching (and it’s oddly sadistic hours) Trevor and I have been ever -present during those years when it matters most…
And there isn’t a pension or benefit package that could ever rival that!
Never once have I considered piano teaching a hobby. And while I wanted the benefit of staying home with my children, I also wanted to earn a good living! In our teacher’s guide, Piano Hands Shouldn’t Flip Burgers you’ll discover how to turn your “hobby” into a piano teaching career.
Those blue eyes are beautiful! The world needs more parents like you!
I’m a homeschooling music teacher – and I’m just so thankful that with my job I can work my hours around teaching my kids, and they very rarely get a babysitter, as I work around dads hours too. It’s so wonderful!!
I agree, I am very appreciative of the flexibility that my job offers, I am free from what others struggle with in there 9-5 jobs, dealing with their bosses, driving home in traffic, etc. lol One day when I have kids, like Joyce says, I would like to home school too. What an extraordinary life we get to live! 🙂 (Yes, even with the headaches at times) hehe
Your daughter is so darling by the way. <3
Awww.. thanks Holly!
She’s gorgeous! My son recently started preschool (from 9-2) Now I’m not so sure about how I feel about teaching from 4-8pm… I am not so sure I want him growing up not knowing what a family dinner is, etc…
If you don’t mind me asking, now that your little one is starting kindergarten, are you making any changes to your schedule?
I like my piano teaching, but I would not make the same career choice again. Unless you have a rich husband who has a steady employment, the job lacks security, steady hours and most importantly BENEFITS!
Most teachers get summers off, but are paid. Not piano teachers. I still have the same student loans to pay like most people. I must say it is a great supplementary income for stay home Moms but otherwise a bad career choice.
