If you had to sum up your mission as a piano teacher, could you? Could you clearly define what it is you believe in, what it is you offer and “who” you are as a teacher? If not, follow along!
Having your mission statement clearly laid out will not only help you to develop a concise marketing presence, but it will also help to guide your business activities in general. It’s a beneficial exercise for any small business – your customers want to know who are you?!
If you’ve never played around with “Mad-Libs” as a teen the process is simple. It’s a “fill in the blank” way of creating a paragraph by choosing your own words to replace the blank spaces in the template. Check out this step-by-step “Mad Lib approach” to creating your Piano Teaching Mission Statement.
Step-by-Step to Creating a Piano Teaching Mission Statement
Our studio’s mission statement hangs on our waiting room wall – we’re quite clear about “Who We Are” and it helps to define us amongst the other music studios in our area. We don’t get lost in the mix – we stand out because we clearly tell people why we are different. Here’s how you can stand out too:
Grab a pen and paper (and maybe even a thesaurus!) and prepare to be honest! This exercise isn’t about any right answers or what you should or shouldn’t say. There’s plenty of time to weed out what you don’t like later on.
When you’re set to begin, follow this formula:
Piano Lessons With (fill in your name here)

This looks fabulous on your page Leia! I love it 🙂

P.S. If you are wondering about that copyright thing – I’ve had other music teachers blatantly copy and paste things from my website, compositions and FB page. There’s a difference between “drawing inspiration from” (me with your mission statement) and blatantly copying!

I love this! It’s always motivating for me to remember why I started studying and teaching music in the first place. (Reconnecting with my passion, etc.)
I was wondering if I could ask you- which publishing program do you use to create such attractive and exciting handouts? Everything you publish looks amazing! (so much better than my Microsoft Word documents)
Thanks so much!

Hi Melissa – We use a combo of MS Publisher and Pages. Both Trevor and I love graphic design so we enjoy making them 🙂 Yes, MS Word is difficult to work with from a graphics point of view!

Thanks! Would this be effective as an online ad? Maybe condensed some how.
Andrea says
Hi Joanne – It would depend on the type of ad you were thinking of. Facebook is very dependent on a good photo to get people to click – more so than words. I think it’s most effective as a page on your website, on a poster/brochure for your studio or printed out large in your studio waiting area (that’s where we have ours).
