If you’re looking to add a shot of excitement into your piano teaching studio then you’ll want to tune in to this week’s piano teaching podcast where we interview piano teacher and blogger Jennifer Foxx.
After finding great amounts of motivation in group vs. solo fitness, Jennifer has jumped wholeheartedly into offering some really awesome group piano classes at her studio. Discover how she incorporates them into her yearly calendar, what she has planned for this coming year, and why she thinks group classes are so important both for her piano students and for her piano teaching business.
Jennifer bloggs regularly and you’ll want to check out her site at fpsresources.wordpress.com. Her Tech Tuesdays are particularly helpful when navigating the rapidly expanding tech world when adding smart phones or ipads into your lessons. Jennifer shares her current 3 favourite apps for piano teachers at the end of the Podcast.
Piano can be a solitary instrument, but with just a bit of imagination and a little organization you can knock ’em out with some amazing group piano offerings. If you’re wanting to jump right in but you don’t have the time to plan, then check out our Group Piano Party resource to get started… all the work is done for you!

Good podcast today. I teach group lessons only for the first two years of study and needed to remind myself why! They are motivational for the students and the teacher. They can be frustrating as well if the students don’t practice so they can stay up with the class. I teach private lessons to students who continue after the two-year classes. I think it helps to keep students interested longer.

Great info, as always, Jennifer. You are truly the Queen of iPad apps for Piano Teachers!! Is it FourScore or ForScore? looking to check it out, and add it to my doc Jennifer’s iPad Apps (for when I finally get one)…
Love the idea of a kickoff for first week back, I don’t have the space for a group thing as of yet, but just the idea of it, so I’m hoping something strikes me by Tuesday!
And as well, your reminder re: Christmas Camps…great idea too, for when I get a bigger studio…
And, it was great to finally hear your voice! Love this podcast idea here, good job Andrea!

What a great podcast! I generally do quarterly group classes or masterclasses too in lieu of regular lessons and definitely believe it’s the reason so many of my teens stick with it. I, however, do multi-age, multi-level and it seems to work great….the older more advanced students inspire and help mentor the younger ones. I sure appreciated all of the fresh ideas for these classes from this podcast! Thank you so much!
PS How do you spell the music studio app? I searched it on my iPhone but couldn’t find it and wonder if I had it spelled incorrectly? I thought I heard moosicstudio?
