I have no idea what happened to October and November, but suddenly I find myself thrust into December. I know it’s December because I’m suffering from a bad case of ISA (Incomplete Shopping Anxiety).
I also know it’s December because the Christmas activities are ramping up in our daughter’s classroom and she’s bubbling over with excitement to go to school each day. And I can’t blame her, because her teacher is doing an incredible job of integrating the winter and holidays with REAL learning opportunities.
No Christmas coloring sheets and word searches… nope… they get to look forward to activities like candy cane math, fizzy melting snowman science, and snowball poetry.
As piano teachers, we too can use the excitement of the holidays to our advantage and keep the momentum of the fall term rolling. To help you along the way, we have a couple of activities that we gave away last December that were a huge hit in our readers’ piano studios. If you missed them last year, then here’s your chance to grab them!
4 Holiday Piano Teaching Activities
1. Want to reinforce intervals and keyboard awareness using red and green jellybeans? Then check out this awesome activity.
2. Even if your backyard isn’t covered in snow, your kiddos can still enjoy the magic of snowmen with this chord recognition activity.
3. Given my ISA 🙂 I’m not sure if this is the best activity for me, but I’m willing to bet that you and your students will have a blast picking Christmas gifts and learning to find major and minor chords
4. And finally… why not solidify your piano students’ knowledge of dynamics with this goofy and interactive car game?
May the Backwards Slide Happen Only on a Toboggan
With a little bit of fun and ingenuity, you can stop the “backward slide” in practice that happens over the holidays and can keep your kiddos motivated to practice (and their family members engaged and participating).
