What is one of my fondest holiday memories as a piano student? The lesson immediately following the Christmas recital!
I can only describe the feeling as a huge sigh of relief. Up until that point I had spent days on end preparing to deliver as perfect a performance as I possibly could. And so when the follow-up lesson arrived and my teacher and I would hammer away at Christmas duets or play around with composing “just for fun”… it was pure bliss.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved preparing for my recitals and I also loved the accomplishment of delivering a great performance after so many hours of preparation… but having the pressure off was something I cherished.
And I could always tell that it was something my piano teacher cherished as well.
So today I wanted to share a Christmas activity we created last year called A Save Santa Composing Activity. If your recital is behind you already, or will be soon, break out this activity the following week and remind your piano students, and yourself, of the joy of making music “just for fun”.
A Santa-Themed Composing Printable
What’s Santa to do? Every child in the world has requested their own piano piece for Christmas! He needs your piano students’ help to create masterpieces to share with the world!
Even if you’ve never taught composing before, this printable makes it easy with a step-by-step approach that guarantees success. Your piano student will leave his lesson waving his very own masterpiece! It’s the perfect activity for those “chill” weeks after your recital.
