If there was ever a perfect “project book” that your students can really take ownership over, then this month’s piano book is it… (okay, our upcoming teen book is crazy awesome too!!)
As well as being quite possibly the most unique book we’ve created to date, The Mutterwump Masterpiece: An Intergalactic Exploration of Theme and Variations is the type of piano book you don’t have to assign for homework… kids are just drawn to it.
To learn more about The Mutterwump Masterpiece check out the video preview below and then keep reading to see the music. (Note: don’t forget to turn up the volume)
The Mutterwump Masterpiece
There once was a composer…
Ever wonder what would happen if your music fell into the hands of a Sharglequark… or a Mutterwump… or an Aquagaga?
Your students will delight in the changes that a host of wild and wacky space creatures choose to make to “a very normal piece” as it floats from planet to planet.
Complete with a catchy poem and original artwork, this imaginative book of piano repertoire will give your students the opportunity to explore the concept of theme and variations and to observe how changes to articulation, voicing, dynamics, key, arrangement and rhythm can affect the character of a piece.
Will the poor composer ever produce a song of which he can be proud? Read on to find out!
Note: The Mutterwump Masterpiece is no longer available but you can check out this month’s book by clicking on the image below.

Hello, my name is Anita. I’m a piano teacher in Guayaquil-Ecuador (South America). I would love to suscribe to Piano Club, but there are two things that maby you can help first. One of them is the lenguage. I would have to translate all the activities and printables in Sapnish, so my students could understand. And the second thing is the time it would take to arrive the printed materials to my country (is arround 3 weeks), not to mention the costs of importing. I don’t know if you have an online subscription option (only pdf’s), maby that could be a way. I appreciate your help.

Hi Anita – thanks for your comment! All of our materials are in English but the wonderful thing is that music is universal 🙂 While we do occasionally have more “wordy” parts to the books, most are not dependent on language (or could be easily translated by the teacher while reading to your student). The books are digital – meaning there is no shipping so yes, the books are all available (only) as pdf’s. Sounds like what you were hoping for 🙂

When I saw this absolutely cute and clever way to approach themes and variations I was taken over. I couldn’t stop myself! I just had to subscribe!
And I love it! I far exceeds my expectations

Hi Kathy – our PianoBookClub books are only available in the month in which they are offered. We do re-release books to our current members, but we don’t know at what point this one will be re-released 🙂
