In our neck of the woods, the temperature is starting to dive and there is a threat of snow in the forecast. This means my littlest piano students will come all bundled up for lessons grinning from ear to ear at the possibility of building a snowman.
…If they manage to get out of all of their warm gear before the end of the lesson, I will definitely be using the two worksheets I’m sharing today for some pre-reading fun!
I have to admit… I think I enjoyed creating these worksheets more than I should have… the snowmen are just too darn cute!
Pre-Reading Piano Activities
In the first few piano lessons, as your students are memorizing their finger numbers, finding groups of two and three black keys, learning high vs. low, practicing stepping up vs. stepping down… phew!… sometimes it’s nice to step away from the method book to do some fun reinforcement before turning the page and moving on to the next set of concepts.
Today we have just the thing! You can print these two worksheets out and send them home with your students, laminate them to keep them as in-lesson materials to be used over and over for several students, or you can even save them to use on your iPad!
I hope you and your littlest pre-readers have a blast playing around with “Crooked Buttons” and “Snowdrift”. I also hope you love our new worksheet style… expect to see more of these coming down the pipe in the very near future!
You can download the worksheet here. Have a great day and enjoy your weekend!
The Primer Book That Teachers Are Calling “Their Favorite”
If you teach young beginners, you’ll know that creating a solid foundation is crucial. The primer book you choose can have a huge impact on the future success of your young beginners. “I have never before had a method book where students are so excited to see what happens next and treat it as a storybook. Pedagogically, this is an excellent series, and the combination of off and on keyboard activities is a great balance, with a lot of flexibility. The structure lets you move at a speed appropriate for each child. Only having one book is easier for parents to manage, and sets up home practice well.” ~Amazon Review. Find the book on Amazon here.
