Is our note-reading buddy filling your studio with giggles yet? This skunk is the star of our Primer-Level WunderKeys method books and of our PianoBookClub book “Smells Like Treble”.
An this furry little buddy is also the star of the early elementary piano game you can download in today’s post!
We’ve been receiving rave reviews from teachers whose students are having a blast learning Treble C position repertoire while following along with the comical chaos that results when our skittish, piano-playing skunk confuses “treble” with “trouble”.
In fact, just the other day teachers wrote us to say…
“The kids LOVED it and I love that I now have a “series” of animal friends who are learning to play the piano 🙂 I read the teacher’s part and my students read the animal part and you have to see the smiles and laughs. So much fun 🙂 Thank you!!!! Keep up the AWESOME work!”
and…
“OH, my – this month’s book is adorable! What a lovely thing to wake up to in this morning’s email: this month’s PianoBookClub Book! Absolutely adorable!”

In Smells Like Treble, Maxwell A. Skunk takes your young piano students on a laugh-out-loud journey while eagerly exploring note reading in Treble C position. And, because B, A, and G below Middle C smell… I mean sound… so sweet with the notes in Treble C position, Maxwell will teach your students those ones too!
If May’s Book of the Month looks like the motivational tool you need to reinforce note reading with your littlest learners, become a member of Teach Piano Today’s PianoBookClub for just $8 US monthly and we’ll get you started today with Smells Like Treble. *UPDATE* This book is no longer available, but current PianoBookClub members do get the chance to purchase re-released books from the past!
A Printable Piano Game To Accompany “Smells Like Treble”
Don’t Scare the Skunk is a printable piano game to accompany this month’s book and to reinforce recognition of notes in Treble C position.
While this game can be used as a wonderful stand-alone resource, using it in conjunction with Smells Like Treble is bound to create a lesson experience that kids and parents will rave about!
You can download Don’t Scare the Skunk here.

I can’t wait for the day this appears in my inbox! Can I just ask if there’s any way I can purchase ‘nuts about note reading’ and the other bits that went with it? It was released just before I discovered you, and it’s one of my most longed for books.
Andrea says
Hi Elaine – yes you can 🙂 Nuts About Note Reading is our re-released book available to PianoBookClub members this month (check the bottom of your delivery email for the password). I have been an enthusiastic, grateful and happy member of both the piano book club and game club for several months. I LOVE these resources! My students LOVE these resources! I know that I have become spoiled because of all your great work! Thank you!
I have a question – I was wondering if, for this game with Maxwell the skunk, you recommend that we should leave the back of the cards blank, or do you have a fabulous back that just didn’t get included with the downloaded game file? That’s just how spoiled I am! Thank you for all your hard work!
