My students seem to be bringing Christmas into the studio earlier and earlier every year. Just this past week I had one student show up in a Santa hat and two others excitedly tell me all about decorating their trees.
Whew! They caught me off guard!
But, I guess it’s almost that time of year. And if you also have piano students in your studio who are starting to get amped up about the holidays, then you’ll be equally excited about the printables in today’s post.
Below we’ve rounded up some great Christmas-themed activities from the blog that will guarantee a holiday season of fun in your studio.
And if Christmas isn’t a huge deal in your studio but you’re desperate for printables to cut down on your planning in December, keep an eye on the blog next week for some cool winter-themed goodies 🙂
Our Top 5 Christmas Piano Teaching Activities
We’ve shared a ton of Christmas activities and printables on the blog, but we’ve narrowed them down to our five favorites. Warm-up that printer and get ready to plan your December lessons in no time flat!
As you prep for holiday recitals, sometimes your piano students just need to take a break and have fun finding freedom on the keys. Our “Santa’s Workshop” improv activity will provide this much-needed break. Simply print and play! Even if you’ve never taught improv before, it’s guaranteed to work.
If you or your teen students need a flashy piece to play for recitals, church, or other gatherings, then you’ll be excited to download our two free teen piano pieces. Three Ships is a showy tune that is accessible for most intermediate students and In The Bright Sky is a holiday mash-up that teens adore.
Using the holidays as an inspiration for composing always results in a ton of fun. This printable is a step-by-step approach to creating a mini-masterpiece that your students can complete in lesson time.
Building keyboard awareness skills gets a Christmas twist with our printable Holiday Fortune Teller! Steps, skips, and intervals are the focus of this fun theory activity that young piano students go crazy for!
If you take a break from teaching over the holiday season then you’ll definitely want to make sure that your piano students are motivated to continue to practice! These fun piano practice printables and activities turn regular old practice into a holiday treat!

Here in the south emisphere we are aproaching the end of the academic year and sometimes at this point it’s very difficult to keep them motivated, but with all these activities they will be so excited they probably want to continue with classes over the summer months!Thank you so much!! 😀

Thank you once again for these activity sheets. My pupils loved the Halloween improv sheets and wanted to do them well into November – so now we’ve got new ones, yay!
I have a few special needs pupils, and these pages are invaluable for allowing them to make rhythm discoveries and games at their own pace.

I LOVE IT! The Santa composing activity was such a hit this past week with my (many) students. Some students did their part and I played the other…while more advanced students learned the whole song. All the students wrote repeat signs, because they didn’t want to just play it through once. We played it on the piano and then on keyboards with a “Christmas” sound. We turned the disco ball and studio Christmas lights on, the ‘regular’ lights off, and invited parents in for an impromptu concert at the end of the lesson. Then the students put a cotton ball on the beard of a cardboard picture of Santa, for their good work that day. Two sisters even did their parts they composed on different pianos at the same time and turned it into a trio with me. None of the kids wanted to leave, one little girl said she couldn’t wait to get home so she could play it over and over again, and one boy started to cry when his lesson was over. Thank you for imaginative and creative ideas that keep students loving their music lessons.
