Once a month, Andrea and I take a quick break from our regular blog posts to share the latest games from our monthly resource PianoGameClub. If you’re looking to pump up the fun in your lessons, then check out our game previews at the end of this post.
The key to a wonderful year of piano lessons is to get off to a great start. And the only way to get off to a great start is to be excited and enthusiastic for the return of your students!
But if you’re not yet feeling the excitement… having cool, never-before-seen resources to surprise your students with when they return to lessons is bound to get you back in the groove.
In today’s post we’re previewing four resources that will help you kick off an exceptionally fun year of piano lessons.
How Piano Teachers Can Stay Motivated Year After Year
On the Teach Piano Today blog we talk a lot about keeping students motivated and enthusiastic about piano lesson. But the truth is, it is important for you, both personally, and professionally, to walk through your own studio doors each day with a sense of excitement.
And the key to keeping yourself motivated is not too different then how we keep our students motivated; you need to break free from routines with new and novel teaching experiences.
Some teachers keep themselves motivated with massive, exciting changes, but small, simple, and regular changes work well too! Often, the introduction of a never-before-seen teaching resource is enough for a teacher to get inspired… and that is where our games from PianoGameClub come in! Because members receive four new games each and every month, there is always something to get excited about.
With this August’s PianoGameClub set, that includes a bark-out-loud battle in the sky, a bowling brontosaurus, a sleepy, slobbery dragon, and a litterbug on the loose, you will be counting down the days until your students come sprinting to your studio!

I love how the games have such great eye appeal, too! How much time do you spend doing one of your games in a 30-minute lesson? And how old of a student do you use them with?
Andrea says
Hi Leigh – yes, we have so much fun working with artists to create these unique designs! Typically the games take about 6 minutes or so to play if you have them organized in a way that makes it easy to “grab and play”. I find that this time spent saves me a lot of time in the long-run as my students more readily absorb concepts than they do listening to me simply talk about them on the bench 🙂 I use these with absolutely everyone. Young students love them, teen students get a kick out of the quirky (and out of attempting to beat me!) and even adults have fun. Who doesn’t love games?! 😉 It really depends on your approach – if you’re willing to get goofy yourself and play along with enthusiasm then they work for any age!

Looks cool! How do you organize them so you can quickly accesss them?
Andrea says
Hi Vickie – I’ll email you a link to a “game organization” blog post 🙂
