When it’s time for technical exercises, do your piano students roll their eyes? Or, if they’re too polite to roll their eyes, does the energy drain from their faces?
Traditional technical exercises suck the fun out of a studio. They’re the musical equivalent of times tables. But… they’re necessary!
There are certain skills that require muscle memory. And muscle memory is only developed through repeated practice of technical exercises.
So, does this mean your students must approach technical exercises with a “grin and bear it” kind of attitude? Of course not! With the right repertoire-based resources, your students can master technical exercises while completely forgetting they are even doing technical exercises.
And today, we are showcasing one of these resources.
How To Add Some KAPOW! To Technical Piano Exercises
June’s Piano Book of the Month from Teach Piano Today’s PianoBookClub is here and it’s going to add some KAPOW! to your students’ technical workouts.
KEY-POW: Piano Tactics For Technical Success is the tool teachers need to get their students excited about technical work. Armed with these high-energy, late-elementary piano pieces that focus on specific “technical tricks”, your students will hone their skills with the efficiency and accuracy of a ninja.
Listen to a few samples below and you’ll probably say to yourself, “Wow! These are technical exercises?!”
1. The Leap: In this piece piano students are learning to anticipate the distance of a left hand octave leap.
2. The Pivot: In this piece piano students are learning to execute crossovers to neighboring keys.
3. The Balance: In this piece piano students are learning to perform two-note slurs between a harmonic interval and a single note.

I’m counting down the days till this piano book club book comes to my inbox! This really was exactly what I’ve been looking for and I know my students are going to love it! P.s. I’m a newer member of the PianoBookClub and my only regret is not joining sooner. It’s the best and we’ve been loving the Chopin series. Thanks!

I would like to get the Amadeus Anthems, but would prefer not to buy it from Amazon, as I like the liscense to reprint them as needed.

I used your original set of Wunderkeys for several young beginners and we enjoyed the finger exercises. Are they available anymore with audio? I would like to use them with my current Wunderkey students in your revised set.
