A young piano student’s happiness peaks when they finally begin reading “real notes” on the staff. After all, this is what they have been waiting for… this is what makes them feel like a “real pianist”… this is what makes their parents beam with pride. They can read music! They can play the piano!
And it is during this delightful time that a teacher can set years of musical success in motion by building on this happiness with creative and exciting materials that keep students motivated to practice and progress.
And what is more exciting than a musical mystery that reinforces note reading and keyboard awareness?!
Today we’re sharing a resource that turns your early-elementary piano students into musical sleuths as they explore teacher-student duets in Middle C position in order to solve a curious crime.
Help Solve The Mystery In This Early Elementary Resource
If you’re a big fan of our piano detective series and love The Mysterious Case of Chewtwig van Beaverton and The Mysterious Case of Inkor Squidvinsky, then you’ll want to add The Mysterious Case of Camel Saint-Sands to your collection!
You’ll be jamming away like a marimba band in no time with the teacher-student duets found in The Mysterious Case of Camel Saint-Sands. These impressive sounding piano duets will make choosing recital repertoire for your little ones a piece of cake.
In this third book of our piano detective series, the mystery is set in Africa when several notes from Camel Saint-Sands’ Sahara Symphony are stolen. Three suspects are apprehended and your piano students need to use the provided clues in the book to crack the case!
How does it work? Someone has stolen one note from each of the seven pieces in The Mysterious Case of Camel Saint-Sands. The clues to uncovering the missing notes are contained on the Witness Pages that precede the pieces in the book. Help your students find the seven missing notes, complete the piano pieces, solve the crime, and convict the criminal. Who is the thief? They’ll be desperate to find out!

Hi, im new to the teach piano today, and signed up in time to the book club to get this awesome book. The boys I, teach are hooked to say the least. Am I able to get access to the other mystery books (The Mysterious Case of Chewtwig van Beaverton and The Mysterious Case of Inkor Squidvinsky) as the boys are wanting more. YEAH!!

Hi Vanessa – I’m so glad they love them! These books do pop up as re-releases (if you are a continuing member you get access to a re-released book each month as an optional “add-on”) That’s how you can add them to your collection 🙂

I love these mystery books! We used them for small group lessons (if I have to sub for another teacher & we have 1-2 extra students). It’s also a great filler when a student has forgotten their book, or during testing-week at the schools. Low pressure, high fun!
Andrea says
Hi Kelly – so glad you have been able to use them in so many ways 🙂 Thanks for your kind comment!

Debi Yanover says
I would like to be able to read the instruction page for the mystery. The link has the pages go by too quickly.
Could you please send me that page?
Andrea says
Hi Debbie – if you click on the last image in the post it opens up a flip-through preview. You turn the pages by clicking so you can stay on one page as long as you like and can even zoom in 🙂

I had a blast playing the teacher parts just for my own enjoyment, and I can’t wait to play these duets with my students. The teacher parts aren’t very difficult, so I’m thinking I will get some of my older students to play the teacher parts with some of my younger students. What RCM level would you say the teacher parts line up with?
Andrea says
Hi Rebecca – yes, they’re intentionally simple so that you can have siblings or friends play together 🙂 They’re about a Grade 1 RCM level in most cases.
