Teaching piano to young beginners and teaching piano to beginning teens is a lot of work. But the work that is required is quite different for each age group.
With young piano students, most of the work comes during their lesson time to keep them interested, focused and on task. With sites like TeachPianoToday and all-in-one method books like WunderKeys you can find ways to reduce your prep time.
Teaching beginning teens, however, is a different story. While they don’t require a lot of management while they’re in your piano studio, their repertoire tastes can keep you up ’til all hours of the night searching for piano pieces that sound “cool” while still meeting their musical capabilities and your teaching goals.
And the problem is, there just isn’t a lot of cool music for beginning teen piano students. Or, at least, there wasn’t!
Today we are excited to announce the release of the second book in our series of piano books for beginning teens, WunderKeys Rock Repertoire For Teen Beginners 2: Piano Pieces In The G 5-Finger Scale | With Teacher Duets.
Keep reading below to learn more.
All Of The Piano Repertoire You’ll Need For A Teen’s First Year
With this release of the second book in our WunderKeys Rock Repertoire Series you’ll have plenty of music to keep your teens excited for their first year of piano lessons. Plus, if you combine this music with the free coordinating beginning teen printables we continue to release here on the TeachPianoToday website, lesson planning for this challenging group will keep getting easier and easier!
But this music does so much more than just reduce your piano prep. You will find that your beginning teens quickly become your favorite students to teach. As both books come with full teacher duets, you will likely have as much fun as your teens are having as you rock out together in lessons!
WunderKeys Rock Repertoire For Teen Beginners 2 is available on Amazon.
Note: All 14 of these pieces are brand new and have not been released through PianoBookClub.
Check out what teachers are saying about our WunderKeys Rock Repertoire series:
“The description, including the title, specifies for “beginning” teenagers. But I have used it with ALL of my pre-teen and teen age students, as well as some beginning adults. The music is fun for my most experienced (they still have to concentrate) and satisfying for beginners.”
“Students love these pieces and feel they have really accomplished something when they’re able to play them with the duet part. They sound so cool!”
“Love these books. Life changing for grabbing the imagination of my young guys and gals. I’m so thankful you wrote them!”
“I have an adult student recovering from a stroke, and this book has been extremely helpful. The pieces sound mature and contemporary, but are simple enough for her to experience success as she works at regaining her skills. I also use it for my older beginner students, but it really shines for my teens. The authors have additional support materials available on their blog, and a support group for teachers on FB that is highly recommended.”
“I have a new pre-teen student who started lessons at the beginning of the year. I started him out in the same book I’ve used with older beginners with great success, but it wasn’t clicking for him despite trying several different strategies and things within the book. I ordered the Rock Repertoire book and started him in that last week. We just finished his lesson today and he came in so excited! This book is a perfect fit for him.”
A New Twist And A Visual Preview Of WunderKeys Rock Repertoire For Teen Beginners 2
WunderKeys Rock Repertoire For Teen Beginners 2 contains 14 piano pieces that are set in the G 5-Finger Scale and accompanied by full teacher duets.
But there is a new added twist.
We have included a second section in this book that contains the 14 piano pieces with the teacher duets removed. The two-page layout of this new, second section eliminates mid-piece page turns and facilitates effective home practice for teens. Note: We have revamped Book 1 to include this second section as well!

Such wonderful material! PLEASE consider removing the word “Teen” from the cover, as it works for any beginner who likes “cool” music…which is almost every beginner over the age of 7. This would have been perfect for a 50-year old drummer I had a few years ago!

Hi Alice! I’m so glad you love the music 🙂 Yes, it’s really fun for all ages, but the “Teen Beginner” area is one that is really hard to find music for (which is why we focussed on that age group). Enjoy!

I copy what Alice says! I feel the word Teen limits the appeal. Parents don’t want their pre-teens to play Teen music, but kids will love it. Adults don’t want to feel like a Teen. This music is so brilliant, maybe it should be “More Rock Repertoire for the Sophisticated Beginner”

Is there any chance that you will be selling these books as digital copies as New Zealand doesn’t qualify for free postage from Amazon so it makes them quite expensive. Thanks.
Andrea says
Hi Ann! Sorry it’s hard for you to get in NZ! Amazon is our publisher so unfortunately we don’t have control over the distribution. Currently this book is only available in hardcopy. Apologies! The best way to get digital music from us is through PianoBookCLub.com 🙂
