Speaking from experience, if you want to delight your piano-playing children, take a well-known song and mess with the lyrics.
Halle, my youngest daughter, absolutely loves it when Trevor and I write goofy songs for her.
And I’m guessing your piano students could use a little, light-hearted goofiness right now too!
If you are currently teaching, my Christmas In July piano parody will have your elementary students sprinting to your studio door. And if you are not teaching, you can use the piece to stay in touch with your kiddos over the summer by sending it to them as a surprise.
With a holiday tune your kids will love and lyrics that have nothing at all to do with Christmas, my summer piano parody is a goofy way to get your kids on the bench.
A Christmas In July Summer Piano Parody
Today’s Christmas In July piano piece is a hilarious summer parody based on the holiday classic, We Wish You A Merry Christmas. Composed for students working in an elementary level 1 book, the music (and its goofy lyrics) can also be enjoyed as an easy practice piece for older students and a challenge piece for younger students.
While it works well as a standalone solo, it is a wonderful supplement for students working in WunderKeys Elementary Piano Level 1B.
In addition to the book above, be sure to check out the WunderKeys 2020 Piano Book Guide and stock up on all of your method books before another year of lessons begins.

This pieces is adorable! I know several students that will love it! I’ll have to check out the one from last year, I didn’t see it!
Thanks for all of the great materials! I just received my copy of Muttzart and Ratmaninoff in Eine Kleine Feline. I’m eager to show it to my students when I start summer lessons next week! I’m sure I’ll be back for the studio license!

Hi Sally – we’re so glad you’ll get to use the both now then! 🙂 We really hope you enjoy the new Muttzart book! That particular book doesn’t have a studio license option as it’s hardcopy, but we have a composing resource featuring those characters that is 🙂
