Let’s face it: setting goals isn’t exactly the most exciting part of learning piano. Yet, it’s an essential step in making meaningful progress. That’s why I’ve decided to turn goal-setting into a game.
This week, I’m thrilled to introduce you to a brand-new resource—My Piano Goals Card Game. It’s designed to make the sometimes tedious task of setting goals not just bearable, but actually fun. With this game, your students will be motivated and engaged, all while setting themselves up for a successful year of piano playing.
The best part? Your students won’t have to brainstorm their own goals. The cards in this game do the heavy lifting for them, offering a variety of well-crafted goals to choose from.

Why Setting Piano Goals Matters
Setting goals for piano students is more than just a box to tick off. It’s about creating a roadmap that guides their practice sessions and ensures they’re moving forward with purpose.
- Time Management: Long-term goals teach students how to manage their time effectively. They learn to break down larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks, leading to consistent progress.
- Motivation and Focus: Yearly goals give students something tangible to work towards. This keeps them motivated and focused, making their practice sessions more productive.
- Progress Tracking: Goals offer a clear way to measure progress. When students can see how far they’ve come, it boosts their confidence and encourages them to keep going.
- Skill Development: By setting specific goals, students can target particular areas that need improvement. Whether it’s sight-reading or mastering a new piece, having a goal ensures steady growth.
How To Play My Piano Goals Card Game
My Piano Goals Card Game is a simple yet effective tool that takes the guesswork out of goal-setting. Here’s how it works:
- Shuffle the Deck: The game begins by shuffling the deck of Goal Cards. Each card has a goal printed on the back, tailored to different aspects of piano learning.
- Read and Select: Students pick a card and read the goal. They repeat this process until they’ve selected three goals that resonate with them.
- Record the Goals: Finally, students write down their chosen goals on the My Piano Goals sheet. This sheet serves as a constant reminder of what they’re working towards.
One of the biggest hurdles in goal-setting is the challenge of coming up with meaningful goals. Many students simply don’t know where to start. That’s where My Piano Goals Card Game shines. By providing a selection of goals, the game eliminates the pressure of having to create goals from scratch. This increases the likelihood that students will engage with the process and take their goals seriously.
