A few years back, coloring had a bit of a renaissance. What was once the domain of children, became a favorite activity for tweens, teens, and adults.
And it stuck!
Today, tweens and teens are eager to escape the stress of daily lives with a coloring book. And, if they are coloring anyway, shouldn’t they be reinforcing a little note reading too?
In today’s post, we are sharing Geometric G Position Coloring activities that can be used with older students.
While we have shared many Color-It Note Reading activities in the past, this is the first time we have used this strategy with older students.
We hope they like it 🙂

Geometric Coloring To Reinforce The G 5-Finger Scales
At the bottom of the post, you will find a printable pack that contains two coloring activities. The first printable reinforces note reading in the low G 5-finger scale and the second activity reinforces note reading in the treble G 5-finger scale.
If your students need even more G position note reading practice, we have the perfect resource.
Andrea and Trevor Dow’s Timed Note Reading Tests For Piano, Book 2 contains 95 days of timed note reading tests in treble C position and G position.
But if you think we just chucked a bunch of notes onto a bunch of pages, you do not know me and Andrea.
We live for piano pedagogy. Even our resources that seem simple on the exterior are built with the pedagogical power of a Mack Truck.
The exercises in Andrea and Trevor Dow’s Timed Note Reading Tests For Piano, Book 2 follow a carefully-crafted, scaffolded approach to ensure piano students learn notes in a manner that makes perfect pedagogical sense.
There isn’t a single note in this book that hasn’t been placed with purpose.
As your piano students progress through this book they will learn notes and then never, ever forget them.
