Do you know what most piano teachers hate?… parents who sign up stubborn students who’d rather be doing anything OTHER than playing piano. Most actually refuse these students, or…drop them quickly.
I, on the otherhand, love it! For me, this presents a wonderful challenge, and a brilliant opportunity to advertise my piano teaching studio. There is no greater word-of-mouth advertising for my piano teaching studio than a parent who is amazed that I was able to help their child to love the piano.
Converting these students to passionate piano players is a lot of hard work, but hey… I didn’t start a piano teaching studio so that I could cruise to retirement for the next 25 years! So, how do you achieve success with these “stubborn students” and get great advertising for your piano studio?
First, create relevancy for that particular child. Use your intuition, or simply engage in discussions to find out your “stubborn students’” other interests. This information will be key to your piano teaching success.
Once you know where your student’s true passions lie (hockey, dance, computer…) do whatever you can to integrate piano into these activities. Teach your “stubborn student” to play the theme to Hockey Night in Canada, or to the Super Mario Brothers computer game, or to the newest blockbuster movie.
Continue down this road, until you have hooked your “stubborn student”. Once your student cracks a smile, it’s all smooth sailing.
Now, just sit back and wait for your phone to ring as other potential clients hear about how you converted a “stubborn student” to a passionate piano player. I can`t think of a better way to advertise your piano teaching studio!
