What’s the biggest mistake piano teachers make with their business? They get complacent! And then their students get bored. And then their re-registration numbers suffer. And then they are struggling to keep their piano teaching career afloat.
Do yourself a favour and never let “complacency” sneak into your studio. It can be a challenge. We all settle into our routines and are guilty of coasting from time to time… but coast too long and you could find yourself in a desperate search to find new piano students.
Instead, treat your business like you are just starting out. Approach your marketing, advertising, and teaching as if you are desperately searching for that first piano student. It is easy to be the underdog because there is no place to go but up. Risks are easier to take if you don’t have far to fall. But when you are an established teacher, you start to take fewer risks with your piano career because you believe what has worked will always work.
Don’t fall into this trap. Never stop experimenting with new piano teaching techniques or new strategies for advertising your piano studio. Even if you are the top dog, embrace the underdog mindset and reinvigorate your piano teaching studio.
