This year our piano recital is going to have an international audience. If all goes according to plan viewers from Japan, Mexico, France, China, South Africa, Holland, Thailand, the United States, Canada, and Australia will all be tuning in to watch friends and family perform their piano pieces.
I never knew our piano school had such an international flair.
We teach a piano student who just moved from South Africa. We teach exchange students from Thailand. We teach kids with aunts and uncles who live in Holland and Japan. And of course we teach piano students with “Snowbird Grandparents” who flee our Canadian winters for fun in the sun in Arizona, Mexico, and Australia.
A few years ago, all of these friends and relatives living abroad would have missed out on our piano recitals… missed out on being proud of a grandson or granddaughter, niece or nephew.
But the world today is a lot smaller. And relatives living abroad no longer have to miss out on our piano recitals…
Which really does warm my heart! It always bothers me a little when one student has just mom, while another student has an entire cheering section.
So this year, we are going to try broadcasting our piano recitals live using the web service, uStream. It is going to be a bit of an adventure. Obviously there are some hurdles to jump over (student permission to broadcast, access to WIFI etc.), but I think we can do it.
What do you think? Are you interested in broadcasting your piano recitals live?

I know this is an old post, but starting a year ago, I started broadcasting my recitals via Facebook Live on my studio facebook page. It’s gotten SUCH positive feedback! Not only is it available live, but it auto archives it (until I take it down, which I haven’t taken any down…mostly because I don’t know how and want to keep them, so I need to find out if I can save them and then take them down if necessary). Family and friends who live far away get to be a part of it-AND they can comment as well! My husband mans the computer while I’m busy running the recital, but it really is so simple these days.
