We thought it might be fun to start the week off with a Monday morning chat over coffee (so to speak). To add to the fun, we used a random name selector to help pick this morning’s piano teaching topic.
Check out the video below and then leave a comment with your piano teaching words of wisdom (be sure to watch to the end when today’s topic is revealed).

One piece of advice? Niche marketing. ‘No job too big or too small’ is just throwing jelly at the wall, the message will not stick.

Be as well prepared as you can possibly be for each lesson. Before you teach your first lesson ever, do a “mock lesson” well before you expect your first student; figure out what you want to do, how much time you have to do each task, and what materials you need to do those things with. Have extra activities/alternate options on hand, so that you can tailor each lesson to the individual (in case they show interest in a certain topic, or become bored and need a change of routine). Write out an agenda for each lesson you teach, before you teach it; you’ll get more accomplished, and on time! 🙂

Be flexible. Be willing to try different techniques, different method books, teach to different learning styles. Find what makes the student love to learn and practice. Study your students — how do they respond to this idea, this song, this technique. Build on their strengths and build up their weak areas with fun games and drills and finger exercises.
