I’m not afraid to admit that I have enjoyed a good television talent competition in the past. But lately, shows like American Idol, the Voice and X Factor are losing their shine… for me at least. I mean really, how many more times can I listen to a Mariah Carey rendition?
And for a while last night, as I watched American’s Got Talent, it seemed that this show was also headed in the same sleep inducing direction. That is until a fellow named William Close arrived on the scene. Before William it was nothing but the the same old mix of singers, dancers, and oddballs (for lack of a better term). But when William performed, I perked up.
Using several steel cables stretching from the AGT stage to a balcony at the side of the theatre, William Close literally turned the place into a giant stringed instrument. It was awesome to watch. Check out the video, but don’t stop reading… there’s a lesson to be learned!
Does Your Piano Studio Have the “WOW” Factor?
Unlike most performers on today’s talent competitions, William Close made everyone sit up and take notice. He was original, different… exciting.
Can you do the same for your piano studio?
To attract piano students, you need to stand out from the crowd both in the way you market your business and in the way you teach your piano students. You need to dare to be different… dare to be awesome. Be the “William Close” of the piano teaching world, not the “Mariah Carey Wannabe”.
Find that “special something” that people will rave about when they talk about your piano lessons. It doesn’t have to be something huge and complicated, but rather that little cherry on top that helps you stand out from the crowd.
Consider becoming the piano teacher who, once in a while…
1. Publishes a book of student compositions OR
2. Holds Friday night jam sessions OR
3. Dresses like a famous composer once a month OR
4. Teaches students to improvise songs from the radio OR
5. Sings as students play OR
6. Facilitates online piano pals from around the world OR
7. Teaches students how to teach piano OR
8. Turns classical pieces into rap, pop, or techno OR
9. Accompanies students on guitar OR…
And the list goes on. Let your imagination run wild! Do whatever it takes to be different… in an awesome way of course!
At TeachPianoToday.com we work very hard to be different… in an awesome way. We strive to create educational materials that excite, inspire, and motivate. That’s why we create products like The Adventures of Fearless Fortissimo, Piano Hands Shouldn’t Flip Burgers, and Shhhh… Your Piano Teacher Thinks This Is Practice.
