Yesterday was a bad day for me.
I was grouchy and so were my children.
My telephone installing man took 4 hours while I waited in the most un-child-proofed environment you could imagine. My children did not appreciate this fact.
We moved into Trevor’s parents house yesterday while we finish building our home. Our dog decided that a nice thank-you gift would be to completely ruin their carpet (I’ll leave her method of destruction up to your imagination).
I had approximately 5 minutes of “me” time all day… and that was spent with a screaming 11 month old in a carseat in the heat.
I was ready for the day to be over.
But I had to teach.
I’m good at faking a perky smile.
My piano student sat on my bench. She’s new and I already know we’re going to be like peas and carrots.
“Don’t you just LOVE how this sounds?” She played four Eb’s softly with the damper pedal depressed… her eyes closed; soaking in the pure pleasure of the simple sound of the piano.
My day immediately improved.
Just a single note… bringing the reminder of how the simple things in life are truly the most joyous.

Loved that. Those “Eflat” days are exactly why I teach too.
