Let’s not kid ourselves… the piano is NOT an easy instrument to learn. It can chew up and spit out even the most motivated adult student… so imagine how it can sometimes make our youngest musicians feel; disheartened and even defeated. It is our job as piano teachers to keep our students inspired, and we all know this is not an easy task.
Zig Ziglar To The Rescue
Several days ago, Zig Ziglar died. Zig was a World War 2 veteran, salesman, and most importantly, a motivational speaker who inspired millions. He was also a piggy bank of motivational quotes. So the next time your student is feeling down, pull out one of these Zig Zigler zingers:
Student Says: (after a messed up recital piece) “I suck!”
Zig says: “Remember, failure is an event, not a person.”
Student Says: “It’s too hard!”
Zig says: “Attitude, not aptitude, determines altitude.”
Student Says: “I forgot to practice”
Zig says: “If we don’t start, it is certain we won’t arrive.”
