What happens at home once your piano student leaves your studio? Do they practice diligently every day? Do they remember 3 days post-lesson that they haven’t retrieved their books from the car? Do they cram a week’s worth of practice into the hour before their lesson time?
There are 167.5 hours in a week when your piano student has the potential to not be playing the piano (the other 30 minutes they’re with you!) and so I’m all for any little way we can nudge piano students in the direction of their home piano benches.
Piano Practice Nudges
I’ve been using what I’ve called “Piano Practice Nudges” at my studio (you can scroll down and check them out). It’s a non-invasive, friendly and humorous way to gently remind my piano families that home practice is important and should be frequent.
And because home practice is SO vital to the well-being of your piano studio… you may consider attempting a few similar “nudges” to inspire your own students!
How to Nudge Your Piano Students
Here’s what my most recently created “Piano Practice Nudges” look like (see below)…
We’ve used the images below on our studio Facebook page, on Twitter, on our studio walls… you name it!
Nudge #1 – Piano Practice Vs. TV
Nudge #2 – Staying Up Late
Nudge #3 – Avoid Rain With A Little Piano Practice
Nudge #4 – Weatherman Says, “Practice the Piano”
Nudge #5 – Escape Chores With Piano Practice
Nudge #6 – Everything Tastes Better With Music
Not only do these friendly reminders result in parents sending their children to the piano bench more often, but it also keeps your piano studio front and center in their minds. Having a continual presence is an important marketing strategy. These Piano Practice Nudges are a great way to encourage interaction beyond your teaching hours. Give it a try!
