To become great piano players, students must have an appreciation for the music of famous classical composers. But with the sounds of today’s Top 40 music growing increasingly farther away from the sounds of classical music, getting teens interested in Bach, Beethoven, or Mozart is a daunting task.
At Teach Piano Today we’re publishing materials all the time in an attempt to bridge this divide and make classical composers relevant to today’s teens. You’ve probably played music from our classical pop crossover collection (The Beethoven Sessions, The Chopin Sessions and The Amadeus Anthems) and used The Practice Sessions worksheets we’ve shared on the blog.
Now it’s time for female composers to shine. In today’s post we have a resource that will show your students what Girl Piano Power looks like.
The Victress Sessions: Classical Pop Piano Solos Inspired By Female Composers
The Victress Sessions is a pop-infused tribute to the music of Clara Schumann, Amy Beach, Fanny Mendelssohn, and more. It’s been out for only a few short weeks but is getting rave reviews already:
“I just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love this new book!!!!!!! It has been an inspiration to my girl students! I think that they sometimes forget that women are as creative and powerful as men, especially when it comes to composition!! I just wanted to say thank you for all that you do for me and my students!!!”
“I just want to take a moment to let you know that this is a fabulous resource for female composers! It has been an inspiration to my girl students! I think that sometimes, girls forget that among the many great male composers, there are just as many great female composers.”
“Just received my copy of the Victress Sessions – by far my favorite of all the sessions and possibly my favorite book club book yet!!”
For centuries, female composers took a backseat to their male counterparts; now it’s their time to shine. Check out the visual preview below.

How can I thank you Andrea and Trevor, for another amazing book for my students? I’m not sure if I want it more for myself or my students this time. I am thrilled to be able to watch my teens beam with pride when they play the sessions and this book will be loved just as much as the others. Thank you!
I’m so glad you’ll enjoy it, Paula 🙂 Thanks so much for your kind words!
