Despite being piano teachers, we teach our kids about so much more than the piano. Often these “extra lessons” involve teaching students to take ownership of their own learning, to recognize how their efforts have a direct effect on their success, and to understand how their skill is not something that is pre-determined, but rather something that grows with purposeful effort.
This is Growth Mindset; a phrase coined over 30 years ago by Dr. Dweck. Dr. Dweck discovered that achievement and motivation are byproducts of a “Growth Mindset”.
“After studying the behavior of thousands of children, Dr. Dweck coined the terms fixed mindset and growth mindset to describe the underlying beliefs people have about learning and intelligence. When students believe they can get smarter, they understand that effort makes them stronger. Therefore they put in extra time and effort, and that leads to higher achievement.” (read more here).
Helping our students learn to adopt this way of thinking about their own learning is best done in a kid-friendly way. For this reason, today we’re sharing a set of Piano Emoji Brag Tags with a Growth Mindset theme.
Growth Mindset Brag Tags For Tweens And Teens
To get started with our Piano Emoji Brag Tags, print out several sets and keep them handy in your studio so they can be used at a moment’s notice. If your students want to try to collect all nine, single hole punch the cards and then have your students attach them to a lanyard. Alternatively, if you do not want to hole punch the cards, your students can collect them in trading card page protectors.
We’ve previously shared a set of Brag Tags for your younger, primer-level students, but this set of emoji-themed tags will appeal to students ages 9+.
With phrases such as, “I wasn’t afraid to make a mistake” or “I trained my brain”, our Piano Emoji Brag Tags allow for plenty of mid-lesson moments where teachers can surprise piano students with brag tags while taking time to discuss why their efforts earned the tags and how these efforts contribute to their musical success.
These tags are bright, colorful, fun, and ready to inspire your piano students to change the way they think about their learning on the bench!
