When summer rolls around, do you close your studio doors and head for the beach? Many piano teachers do.
After 10 months of piano lessons, we need to look after ourselves and our families. Turning music off for just a few weeks is something that I have personally enjoyed since I began teaching.
But the teachers that keep on truckin’ have a good thing going too.
Summer breaks inevitably lead to lost students. When you keep lessons going, you retain way more students year over year.
While I personally never had the stamina to be a 12 month piano teacher. What I did have, however, was the good sense to keep in weekly contact with my piano students.
By doing so, my students would stay connected to me and my studio… almost as if lessons never stopped for the summer.
If you also take a break, today we’re sharing 5 emails with 5 summer printables that you can send to your piano students to keep up your connection.
Your students will be thrilled to hear from you, and you will be thrilled when their smiling faces all come back in August and September.
5 Summer Emails To Keep Connected With Students
Summer is precious, so anything that can keep your studio thriving while also maximizing your “kick back and relax” time is worth doing.
And that is what we’re hoping to provide you with, in today’s email resource!
Below you will find 5 email templates that you can use to connect with your piano students this summer. Each email template includes a summer printable that will make sure your students keep making music.
Feel free to copy, modify, and paste the templates:
Email 1 – Summer Practice Challenge
Hi Emmett and Cadence,
Can you believe how quickly this summer is flying by? For the last month of summer, I thought it would be fun to send Addison this little practice challenge. It requires a teeny bit of involvement on your part, but I know it will be the perfect way to brush off the cobwebs before we return to lessons. Check out the link below and read through the parent instructions. If it’s something you’d like to try, I’d be thrilled!

Email 2: Summer Sight Reading
Hi Luke and Kate,
I hope you and your family are having wonderful summer adventures and that Peyton is enjoying the piano pieces I sent home. During the break, it’s nice to have some easier practice repertoire to keep sight reading skills sharp. I’ve put a link below to some summer-themed sight-reading… with a twist. I think Peyton will have a lot of fun playing this music.

Email 3: Summer Composing
Hi Mark and Amber!
I hope you’re enjoying this weather! I’ve been busy finding some fun activities for my students to complete over the holidays and I thought that Jamie would love this one! If you click on the link below, you’ll find a pdf that will help her compose a summer piano piece. This activity will give her the chance to practice note printing and note reading skills while being creative at the same time. I’ll look forward to hearing what she comes up with when we return to lessons!

Email 4: Summer Practice Plan
Hi Jordan and Jeremy,
I’ve been thinking about Ethan and hoping that the start of his summer has been relaxing. While I do encourage my students to take a bit of time off to recharge, I also know it’s really helpful to establish some (easy) practice routines to make sure he maintains all of the skills he gained this past year. Here’s a cute little graphic that you can use to help guide his daily practice – I love how simple it is and how each day has a theme. I think it will really help make piano a part of his day in a do-able way.

Email 5: Summer Listening Skills
Hi Carrie and Morgan,
I came across this printable the other day and thought of Max. I’m hoping it’s something you can take with you the next time you head out on a summer adventure in the car! Listening skills are a big part of becoming a well-rounded musician, and this activity will make it fun for Max to develop some of these skills. It’s something you can even do as a family. Enjoy!
