Trevor and I are preparing for Lexi and Halle to go back to school. Lexi, our oldest, is heading off to high school.
For many of you who have followed our piano teaching journey over the last decade, you probably remember some of our earliest videos that involved Lexi as a teeny companion in my studio.
So, high school is coming as a shock.
To be honest, I’m not ready for my kids to grow up. My only saving grace is that I get to spend all of the time I want with my two little nieces who live three doors down.
My eldest niece is learning to read.
And I get to relive that wonderful time when letters of the alphabet cover the fridge and songs about the alphabet are streaming from the computer nonstop.
And it reminded me about how much room for improvement there is in the way kids learn to read music notes.
Like little kids learning to read, piano students, regardless of age, need to be interacting with notes in many different ways too.
One such way is with the Dot-to-Dot Note Reading Games we have created for you and your students.
Today’s set includes three games for kids learning notes in the Low G, Bass G, and Treble G 5-Finger Scales.
Note Reading Games And Timed Tests
Note reading games (like the ones we’re sharing at the bottom of today’s post) should be one of many strategies in a piano teacher’s bag of tricks. They provide the necessary fun to keep kids interested in the piano.
But they can’t do it alone.
They need to be supported with a ton of repetition. And the best way to help your students work with notes over and over again is with our timed note reading tests.
In June we released Andrea And Trevor Dow’s Timed Note Reading Tests For Piano, Book 1. This first book which is available here on Amazon, reinforces note reading in Middle C Position and C Position.
And now, we’re excited to announce that Book 2 is now on Amazon!
In Book 2 students will enjoy blasting through timed tests in Treble C Position and G Position. By the end of Book 2, your students will have mastered every note on the grand staff from Low G to High G.
And if you haven’t done so already, you can learn all about the books, and check out a preview here.
