So far, 2021 has been a busy year of composing:
I Dig Piano, The Cat, the Mermaid, and the Soaking Wet Songbook, My Piano Teacher Is Prehistoric, and now… The Rainbow Salad Songbook: Unicorn Songs And Activities For Late Primer Piano Students!
Every year Trevor and I tell one another that we are going to slow down a little; smell the roses, so to speak.
And every year a new piano project gets us excited and we end up glued to our keys (my piano keys and Trevor’s computer keys).
This year, that project is Andrea and Trevor Dow’s Very Useful Piano Library.
It is only April and we are already releasing our fourth book in this series of imaginative and exciting supplementary songbooks for primer and level 1 students.
In today’s post, you and your unicorn-loving students can check out The Rainbow Salad Songbook and learn about all of the fun that will be had with these magical songs and enjoyable activities.

Let’s Take A Look Inside:
1. Piano Pieces
The Rainbow Salad Songbook contains eight pieces for late primer piano students (seven solos, and a teacher/student duet).
Imaginative illustrations and loveable lyrics that accompany the pieces tell an engaging story that will captivate your unicorn-loving students. The unicorn has lost his rainbow colors… how will he get them back? With the help of some kooky characters and their “rainbow salad”! View sample pages below:

2. Activity Pages
Interspersed throughout the book are activity pages to supplement the music. These activity pages include sight-reading exercises, a rhythm activity, note reading games, note printing exercises, a timed test, and a Color-It Note Reading Mystery Picture. Here are a few samples of these pages:

3. Warm-up Exercises
The Rainbow Salad Songbook begins with two pages of getting ready, warm-up exercises that students should perform at the beginning of every practice session to boost note-reading skills, coordination, and finger strength.

4. A Practice Tracker
Kids practice more often when they take ownership of their learning. At the end of The Rainbow Salad Songbook, students will find a practice tracker page where they can keep track of their hard work in a kid-friendly way.
