On the weekend, we shared a November Practice Tracker that students can use to monitor their daily practice leading up to a recital. (Find it here)
But it will take more than a practice tracker to get students ready.
You will need an entire toolbox of tricks to ensure your holiday recital is one that will WOW the audience and grow your studio.
So, today we are sharing our Reindeer Dollars Recital Practice Incentive.
This cute studio reward program will inspire students to prep for your recital and encourage them to focus on note reading, rhythm, and expression.

How To Use Our Reindeer Dollars Recital Practice Incentive
When piano students are preparing for a recital, it’s not just about spending time at the piano. Instead, it is about spending meaningful time at the piano.
If kids simply play their recital pieces on repeat, there is a good chance that incorrect notes or wrong rhythms are reinforced.
For this reason, kids need to practice with purpose. And our Reindeer Dollars Recital Practice Incentive is a wonderful way to make this happen.
A Reindeer Dollar is a piano studio reward that can be used to “purchase” little toys or trinkets from a studio store or music-based rewards like extra game time or a coveted piece of sheet music.
Each week, they are awarded to students who continue to prepare well for your holiday recital.
On the back of a Reindeer Dollar are three assessment descriptors, including note reading, rhythm, and expression.
When a student impresses you with their daily home practice, simply put a check beside one assessment descriptor where her achievement was particularly noticeable.
The student then keeps the Reindeer Dollars in a binder (a ziplock baggie does the trick!). As the stash grows each week, your student can choose to use the money to purchase a little treat from your studio store.

Use Reindeer Dollars After Your Recital Too!
Don’t stop using the Reindeer Dollars after your recital has come and gone! December is a notorious month for missed practice sessions.
If you want to keep your students practicing while they are also inundated with holiday parties, Christmas concerts, and family gatherings, continue using Reindeer Dollars until the very last lesson.
Before You Download Today’s Printable
It’s not too late to complete your Christmas book collection. In fact, now is the perfect time to introduce supplementary holiday repertoire.
Reindeer Dollars will only work if your piano students have repertoire that gets them excited.
And the most exciting holiday repertoire can be found here in Andrea and Trevor Dow’s Very Useful Piano Library.
