Teens are way more creative than they are willing to let on.
While they may be reluctant to reveal this in piano lessons, they are quite keen to play around with their own melodies at home.
For this reason, it is important to give teens the opportunity to compose music.
In today’s post, we are sharing an eighth note teen composing solo.
While it is designed to coordinate with WunderKeys Pop Staff Piano Library For Older Beginners, Book Two, it can be used with any student that needs help with eighth notes.

Composing With Teens Is Easier Thank You Think
The thought of composing with piano students is daunting. Song construction is a formidable task that takes accomplished pianists years to master.
Piano teachers do not have enough lesson time to teach the fundamentals of piano, let alone composing.
Does this mean students should be denied the thrill of making their own music?
Absolutely not! Learning to compose is a journey and it can begin with baby steps that are still enormously exciting to older beginners.
With today’s eighth note teen composing solo, your students need only compose two measures of music to be included in a broader piece.
Additionally, the two measures are created from a provided eighth note rhythm within a 5-finger scale.
All of this means that your students can’t help but compose something wonderful.
It is our hope that this simple introduction to composing may inspire your students to experiment with music and experience the growth that comes from free play at the piano.
