Father’s Day is just around the corner, and we have a wonderful new activity to share with you!
This week, we’ve created a Father’s Day alpha note song designed especially for early primer piano students. This charming piece is meant to be learned and performed as a “musical gift” for their dads.
Imagine the delight on a father’s face when his child plays a special song just for him. This activity provides a meaningful way for your students to showcase their piano progress.

Why This Father’s Day Activity is a Must-Do
Our Father’s Day alpha note song is more than just a fun piece to play. It’s a way to highlight the many benefits of piano lessons:
- Sharing Music with Loved Ones: One of the greatest joys of learning an instrument is sharing music with others. This activity encourages students to perform and brings joy to their family.
- Showcasing Your Studio: Going beyond regular lessons to create special memories can shed a positive light on your teaching studio. Parents will appreciate the extra effort and thoughtfulness.
- Maintaining Motivation in June: As the school year winds down, student motivation often dips. This activity provides a meaningful purpose for lessons in June, keeping students engaged and excited.
Father’s Day is a perfect opportunity to create lasting memories through music. Incorporating our alpha note song into your lessons can inspire your young students and show them the joy of sharing their music with loved ones. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to keep them motivated and engaged as the summer approaches.
Note: We have included a teacher duet with today’s printable. This will allow for a more enjoyable lesson experience. When performing the piano piece at home, the teacher duet is not necessary.
Before You Download Our Father’s Day Piano Piece
Our Father’s Day alpha note song for early primer students (available at the bottom of the post) is composed on the Wunder Staff.
Unique to the WunderKeys Method Books and resources, the Wunder Staff is a modified grand staff used with very new piano students.
It contains the top two lines of the bass staff (referred to as the LH staff) and the bottom two lines of the treble staff (referred to as the RH staff).
The Wunder Staff provides a home for alpha notes so they do not have to just float in space.
When alpha notes are placed on the Wunder Staff, kids learn directional movement of music with much greater success. They can easily see when notes move higher, move lower, and repeat.
And it gets better.
Alpha notes are placed on the Wunder Staff according to their positions on the grand staff. So, while your students are reading note names inside the notes, they are also learning to recognize the placement of notes in middle C position.
This is an incredible advantage provided by the Wunder Staff. When it is time to move piano students away from alpha notes and onto the grand staff, they are already familiar with the appearance and placement of notes in middle C position.
