You know a game called Note Goat isn’t going to be quiet. The name alone will get your students laughing—and once the dice start rolling and the goat starts shouting, the giggles won’t stop.
This printable game is a fast-paced, match-and-roll challenge that turns note-reading practice into an event. There’s a goat dressed like a classical composer. There’s a dice roll twist. And there’s a whole lot of sneaky learning packed into every silly round.
And by the time they’re shouting “Note Goat!” across the piano bench, they’ll also be mastering note names in the C 5-finger scales like a true G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time).
Scroll down to meet the goat, print your cards, and add a hilarious new hit to your studio’s game shelf.

Rules of the Game: Rolling, Matching, and Goat-ing
Note Goat is a fast-paced card game that helps students strengthen their note-reading skills in a hilarious and highly memorable way. To play, one student is given a deck of cards with note images on the staff, and the other is given a deck of cards with note names. Each deck is shuffled separately, and each student holds one die.
On the count of three, both students flip over the top card of their decks and place them side by side. They quickly scan the cards to count how many note names match the note images. If there’s at least one match, both students race to roll that number on their die. The first student to roll the correct number gets to keep both cards.
If there are zero matches, things get silly. Instead of rolling, the first student to shout “Note Goat!” wins the round and keeps the cards. The game continues until both decks are gone, and the student with the most cards at the end is crowned G.O.A.T.
Ready to bring the noise (and the learning) to your next lesson? Note Goat is the kind of game that kids remember, ask for, and learn from—all in the span of a few wild and wonderful minutes. It’s low prep, high energy, and packed with note-reading practice that sticks. Once you play it, there’s no going baaaa-ck.
