On Thursday, our first big piano resource of the new teaching year is being released!
Andrea and Trevor Dow’s Very Useful Piano Board Games: Level 1A Game Pack is designed to get your little kiddos laughing and learning. And because we never release anything unless it’s going to be a smash hit in your studio, we had to put this new resource to a stress test…
And try it with a teen!
So, we changed the instructional concept of Hunting The High Seas, from treble C note reading to key signature recognition, and BAM! Created a goofy teen resource!
Turns out, these games hold up.
And, of course, we’re sharing the teen version with you today.
Then on Thursday, when you pick up Andrea and Trevor Dow’s Very Useful Piano Board Games: Level 1A Game Pack, you’ll get the level 1A version of Hunting The High Seas plus 7 more games, perfect for kicking off your fall lessons.

Game Play: Not Actually Hunting The High Seas
In this teen twist on Hunting the High Seas, players sail around the globe while testing their key signature savvy. The action kicks off with a flipped card revealing a key signature challenge, and from that point on… it’s a mad dash to determine the right answer and roll the right number.
The first student to succeed gets to sail their game piece closer to their opponent—because in this pirate-themed showdown, the goal is to catch your rival before they catch you. Think of it as a fast-paced blend of music theory, strategy, and chaotic dice rolls… with just enough silliness to keep even the most eye-rolly teens engaged.
The full instructions come with the printable, but one thing’s for sure: if your students leave this game not only laughing but confidently identifying key signatures, you’ll know the mission was a success. 🏴☠️
