If someone asked you at the last minute to improvise along with her band… would you jump at the opportunity, or would you cringe with terror and head for the closest exit?
If you’re in the “exit immediately” category, you’re not alone. Many pianists are uncomfortable improvising and would be racing to beat you to the door 😉
But that doesn’t mean that you have to avoid improvisation with your piano students. With our help you can create a great learning experience.
Today we’re sharing a three-page Fearless Fortissimo-themed printable that will help your piano students have a blast with improvisation. And… if you’re wanting to improve your own improv skills, then you might want to set aside some time to try it on your own!
An Activity To Take The “Fear” Out Of Improv
Our comic-based piano book series, The Adventures of Fearless Fortissimo, is eliminating practice wars from studios across the globe. In fact, a teacher recently wrote to say: “One mom said [to me] on Friday, ‘This kid was glued to the piano the whole week playing Fearless Fortissimo!'”
Now it’s time for our musical superhero to take the fear out of improv with the free printable we’re sharing today. If your tweens and teens enjoyed our previous printable “Unbound” then they’ll love this our new printable!
The package contains three pages: an improv “practice” page and a two-page piece. On all pages, the treble staff has been removed in some sections, leaving only a line of rhythm. This is intentional and gives your students the opportunity to make improvised melodic choices while using the provided rhythmic structure.

LINDA KIRKCONNELL says
Fearless Fortissimo is a star in my studio! I have a little first grader who saw the binder on the counter and asked if he could play those songs. I introduced the comic to him and the first piece. That was a few weeks ago. His dad said he no longer has to remind him to practice. He plays Fearless Fortissimo nonstop!
