With the publishing of multiple intermediate resources over the last two months, we have been receiving messages from many teachers who have decided to switch all of their tweens and teens to the WunderKeys Intermediate Piano Program.
We are thrilled that so many teachers have adopted our approach to intermediate piano that uses the pop sounds teens love to reinforce the technical skills teens need!
We know, however, that many of you still have questions about the WunderKeys Intermediate Piano Program (including correlation with other method books) and we’d like to answer them below in today’s post.
Let’s jump right into your questions. If, after reading today’s post, there is anything we have missed, please send us your questions through Facebook or our contact form.
Question 1: Which Books Make Up The WunderKeys Intermediate Piano Program?
The WunderKeys Intermediate Piano Program is divided into four levels (1 – 4). Each level contains the books listed below. You’ll notice that by January, three of the four levels will be ready for your students.
Intermediate Level 1
- WunderKeys Intermediate Pop Studies For Piano 1 (Available on Amazon)
- An Intermediate Performance Companion For Pop Studies 1 (Available on Amazon)
Intermediate Level 2
- WunderKeys Intermediate Pop Studies For Piano 2 (Available on Amazon)
- An Intermediate Performance Companion For Pop Studies 2 (Available on Amazon)
Intermediate Level 3
- WunderKeys Intermediate Pop Studies For Piano 3 (Coming this winter)
- An Intermediate Performance Companion For Pop Studies 3 (Coming this winter)
Intermediate Level 4
- WunderKeys Intermediate Pop Studies For Piano 4 (September 2020)
- An Intermediate Performance Companion For Pop Studies 4 (September 2020)
Question 2: When Should My Students Start The Intermediate Program?
Piano students are ready to start in the WunderKeys Intermediate Level 1 books when they have completed Piano Adventures Level 2B, Alfred Premier 2B, ABRSM Grade 1, Alfred Basic 2, Bastien 2 or RCM Preparatory.
Once WunderKeys Level 2A and 2B are completed (coming in 2020) students will be able to progress from WunderKeys Preschool Book 1 all the way through to WunderKeys Intermediate Level 4!
Question 3: Why Are So Many Teachers Switching To The WunderKeys Intermediate Piano Program?
If you use the WunderKeys method books with your younger students then you know that we don’t just teach students to “play” music, we teach students to “play with” music. And the difference between those two terms is HUGE!
We’ve taken our unique approach to piano lessons and made it work wonders with teens using our intermediate piano program.
This means that when you use our Intermediate Piano Program, filling a teen’s lesson with motivating, age-appropriate activities is a cinch. Your teens will become skillful players as they play with pick-a-path sight-reading, explore with improv, rock out to lap tap clap rhythm work, and learn with lead sheets.
And that’s just the beginning. After teachers and students have a blast with their technical work, they get to put it into practice with piano repertoire that includes classical pop piano pieces inspired by Mozart, Beethoven and more, thundering Celtic solos and cool original pop repertoire.
Question 4: What Do Students Learn As They Progress Through The Intermediate Program?
The WunderKeys Intermediate Piano Program is organized in an easy-to-follow, predictable, key-by-key approach that uses pop-infused technical exercises, pop studies and pop repertoire to reinforce scales, chords, triads, and left-hand patterns.
Where words like scales and triads used to send students running away from your studio, our ability to combine the skills teens need with the musical approach they love, will have teens running TO your studio.
Our Intermediate Piano Program covers the following:
Level 1: Scales, chords, triads, rhythm work and left-hand patterns in the keys of C Major, A Minor, G Major, E Minor, F Major, and D Minor.
Level 2: Scales, chords, triads, rhythm work and left-hand patterns in the keys of D Major, B Minor, B Flat Major, G Minor, A Major, and F Sharp Minor.
Level 3: Scales, chords, triads, rhythm work and left-hand patterns in the keys of E Flat Major, C Minor, E Major, C Sharp Minor, A Flat Major and F Minor.
Level 4: Scales, chords, triads, rhythm work and left-hand patterns in the keys of B Major, G Sharp Minor, D Flat Major, B Flat Minor, G Flat Major, and E flat minor.
