Like unicorns, mermaids are everywhere. They’re on pillowcases, wallpaper, socks, and backpacks.
So, they may as well be in your piano studio too!
Mermaids have a magical ability to capture the imaginations of your piano students. This makes them a wonderful piano teaching tool.
In today’s post, we’re sharing a Compose A Mermaid Melody piano activity that will get your kids excited about making magical music.
If that’s not fun enough, we’ll also introduce you to the “Mer-mazing” piano book that’s all about mermaids!
Mer-mazing Music For The Mermaids In Your Studio
If you have primer piano students who are obsessed with unicorns, mermaids, and all things magical, they will be very excited about our big book announcement next week.
Last week we introduced you to Andrea And Trevor Dow’s Very Useful Piano Library and its first book, I Dig Piano (available here on Amazon).
Andrea And Trevor Dow’s Very Useful Piano Library is our newest book series and publishing adventure. It will grow to be a 17-level (A to Q) early piano collection to be used alongside your primer and level 1 method books for young piano students.
The Cat, the Mermaid, and the Soaking Wet Songbook is here! Designed for primer piano students playing middle C position music in 3/4 time, this book contains piano songs and supplementary activities for the mer-mazing piano students in your studio.

Let’s Compose A Mermaid Melody
To get your piano students pumped about mermaid music, today we are sharing a piano activity that your students can use to compose their very own mermaid music!
As your students complete the simple-to-follow instructions they will create short motives (short recurring melodies) for an unfinished piano piece, and then “fill in the blanks” to create a completed piece of music.
