Do you ever sit down at your piano and play music from level 3 or level 4 method books just for fun? If you’re like me, probably not!
And yet, for years, I made my teen students play method book music that I wouldn’t touch myself with a ten-foot pole. For years, my teens plodded through leveled repertoire, not because it had any musical appeal, but simply because it was… leveled.
This is not to say that I didn’t try to escape leveled method books; I did! I scoured sheet music sites for repertoire that was just right. But, if I’m being honest, I was young, I was a new mom, I was building a studio and using those leveled method books was, in a word, easy.
So, my students and I gritted our teeth, plowed through the leveled method books, and took solace in any supplementary repertoire I discovered when I had a moment to spare.
My guess is that many of you are doing the same; not because you want to but because you have too.
Well, that’s about to change. In today’s post, we’re introducing you to leveled teen repertoire that is so appealing, you’ll be playing it yourself over and over, long after your teens leave your studio.
My Greatest Hits Leveled For Your Teen Piano Students
I have been writing teen music for over a decade. And, thanks to the Teach Piano Today and WunderKeys communities, hundreds of these piano pieces have made their way into studios around the world.
And as teachers in these communities share Facebook posts, email messages, and YouTube videos of students playing my music, greatest hits have certainly emerged!
And then the lightbulb went on!
What if I reworked my greatest hits into a collection of leveled repertoire for intermediate students? Students can stop using boring performance books, teachers could stop their endless sheet music search, and teachers could feel confident knowing that they were using a collection of developmentally-appropriate music that would be a smash hit with their teens.
Today we are excited to announce the release of…
An Intermediate Performance Companion For Pop Studies 1: The WunderKeys Essential Piano Collection.
You Now Have Perfectly-Planned Teen Piano Lessons
I have taken 15 piano pieces that many of you know and love and reworked them to meet the developmental abilities of teen students who are using WunderKeys Intermediate Pop Studies For Piano 1.
With these two books you will have the ultimate one-two piano lesson punch:
- WunderKeys Intermediate Pop Studies Piano 1: A pop-infused book of scale practice piano solos, lead sheet triad training, chord-focused sight-reading, lap tap clap rhythm training, and left-hand pattern improv for the technical portion of a piano lesson, and then…
- An Intermediate Performance Companion For Pop Studies 1: The WunderKeys Essential Piano Collection to WOW your students with performance repertoire that will light up every lesson.
We are so excited to get this book into your studios and cannot wait for the opportunity to show your students just how awesome leveled repertoire can actually be!
Have a great week!

Thank you again for composing great music for teen students. Many do not realize how much theory they are learning while playing the music. Well done! Can’t wait to buy the new book!
Andrea says
Hi Heidi – thanks so much for your kind words! We hope you enjoy using the new book 🙂

Who is your distributor?
Andrea says
Amazon (all sites) 🙂

Hi Andrea, I absolutely love all the resources you create! I wish you would give digital options for all your printed materials though. I live in Canada and am finding it too expensive to order your printed materials to my home. If you would give digital options I could get this latest teen resource for my students which I would love too! But with only a printed option I am going to have to miss out.
Andrea says
Hi Abigail! These books are full color (we know visual appeal is very important to this age group and color plays a big role in how these books work) and so for you to print these ones (over 60 pages) from a digital file it would be over $30 (plus the fee to purchase a studio license which is normally $80+ as the industry standard). We knew this wasn’t a good option for teachers so we chose hardcopy as our method of distribution. Our books are actually all available on Amazon.ca with free Prime shipping 🙂
