If you work from home, as most piano teachers do, then you know that it is nearly impossible to escape work. There are always lessons to be planned, practice incentives to be prepared, and emails to write.
To get away from your work, therefore, takes a concerted effort; you have to mentally walk away and not look back!
And there is no better time to take a long mental walk, then over the holiday season. Nothing helps you return to lessons refreshed better than a winter break. But before you take that winter’s nap, it’s a good idea to plan January’s first week of lessons.
In today’s post, we’re showcasing a few resources that will allow you to plan a special return to lessons in less time than it takes to watch Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Turning Musical Frowns Upside Down
When kids return to your studio in January, they may be a little lacklustre. For the previous two weeks they will have been inundated by festivities and fun. But with the holidays over it’s time to get back to business.
I always approached the return to lessons as a challenge. How fast could I turn lacklustre kids back into music-loving students? The answer… less than 5 minutes; because I used the power of piano games.
If you want to bring the musical excitement back to your students then you’ll want to check out December’s games from Teach Piano Today’s PianoGameClub.
With this month’s game set, your students will have a blast exploring Treble C note reading, ties and slurs, eighth note rhythms and syncopated rhythms with games like Spiderville United, The Dog and Crow Show, Red Zone Rhythms, and A Goose Named Zeus.

Hi Rita! The games are only available through the membership – but we have a flexible membership where you can cancel anytime. You have access to the files forever, however so you can always just save them and then print when you’re ready 🙂
